The border between the Spanish, later Austrian, Netherlands and the Dutch Republic, from Selsaete (Zelzate) to the Brantkreke, drawn in red; dotted, the line agreed in 1715 between the Emperor and the States. Everything north of it, IJzendijke, Biervliet, Philippine and Sas van Gent, was Dutch; Boechaute, Assenede and the villages below the Graaf Jansdijk, with Bassevelde just beyond, stayed in Flanders.
