Epilogue. The line continues

Nine couples, father to son, from a wedding at Sint-Joris in Sleidinge on 21 November 1655 to a grave at IJzendijke in 2002:

4. Bernardus Saeij and Maria Anna van Hijfte, Sleidinge, then Kaprijke
5. Judocus Bernardus Saeij and Anna Marie Bolangiers, Bassevelde, married 1802
6. Bernardus Saey and Marie Therese Vervaet, the Landsdijk at Bassevelde
7. Eduardus Saey and Louisa Clementia Zwartelé, across the border at IJzendijke, married 1878
8. Pieter Johannes Saeij and Mathielde Sophia Lohman, Oostburg, married 1914
9. Achille Eduard Saeij and Irma Sophia de Paepe, IJzendijke, married 1946

The spelling of the name moved with the clerks: Saij, Say, Zaij, Saey, Saeij. The family moved with the work, from the Volpenswege to Kaprijke, to the dyke at Bassevelde, and over the border into Zeeland. Through all of it the records kept the thread: a baptism, a marriage, a burial, a birth act, one after another, for three hundred and fifty years.
